I thought I sensed that you were burning out on blogging after you graduated, married, and moved…..before you took your hiatus. I accepted the explanation that you needed more time to concentrate on FTH. Now I respect your decision and understand your reasoning. I’ll miss your daily blogging, but look forward to whatever you contribute to Flashpoint.

I’d like to say publicly how much I appreciate all the hard work you did back around 2005 and 2006 on the Initiative and Referendum for Alabama issue. A lot of readers today may not know about that or may have forgotten it but I haven’t. Thanks a million!

I wish you well at Flashpoint, but I really will miss you in the center arena. It does feel like we're losing more and more centrist bloggers to the dark side. :D

"My only problem is that I’m still not sure who Luther Strange is, except that he’s tall and plays basketball."

I think that pretty much sums up my own concerns, though these days I'd vote in a ham sandwich over Troy King.

Your friend Frank sounds like a hell of a nice guy. Let him know that for a small fee and modest monthly dues he too can enter Karl Rove's super-secret, super-cool Ring of Fun.

It was fortunate that you entered the negotiations with very reasonable expectations of your compensation.

re those signs: Somewhere I read a funny person say that every time they see the phrase "For your convenience" it means "you're about to get screwed."

       SO GLAD you're back!

Ditto. Celebritization. Dare I say deification? May be 24-7 news cycle. It's hard to explain the infatuation with national politics people can't control. I like state and local politics because politicians tend to be more responsive (not always, though). I like to say that we get the best government possible when that government is as close to home as possible.

Take it from one much older than you, it is the 24 hour news and talk shows. There was a time when the only national news was the 6:00 PM national newscast on CBS,ABC and NBC and whatever your local newspaper decided to put in there. You got the info you needed without all the trivial, insider junk used to fill up 24 hours of broadcasting.

I agree with your thoughts about State and local government being more important. Over here in East Alabama we used to get our state news by watching WSFA (likely to disappear in digital format) and by purchasing a copy of the Montgomery Advertiser (no longer available) in our area. BTW the on line version simply doesn't compare.

Now we have the death of local newspapers and local TV news (staffs getting cut every day) which make blogs like these all the more important.

Simply put, more is not always better.
